For years I’ve been motivating people to lead healthier lives. But now I’m the one on a mission. I’m counting down to my August wedding and I seriously need to practise what I preach, to turn myself into a glowing glamazon. But how?
A goal focuses the mind. From weddings to holidays and birthdays, looking good in less clothes is something we all want. But we want the effects to be long-lasting, not just a drastic regime and then it all goes to pot. It’s not just about weight loss, either. We want to feel amazing and be the best version of ourselves, beyond one day. Saying that, with five months to go, I’m become aware of my back boobs. I seriously didn’t think I could fixate on one body part, but that’s what getting married does to you!
But being a bride ‘of a certain age’ brings with it some realism. There are no magic tricks, cleanses or crunches that will melt off two stone and sculpt my shoulders. Crash diets send you slightly bonkers with deprivation and you’ll fall off the wagon after two days. It’s all about eating well, training regularly and starting early. Moderation is now my mantra. So I’ve cut down on alcohol, swerving the treats and staying strong when cravings kick in. Filling the fridge with fresh crunchy fruit and veg makes it harder to cave in to (or even think about) cake and wine.
Also top of my list is some non-negotiable exercise and pampering. From training to nails, facials, teeth, I need radiance! Skincare is now a military operation, with the endless scrubbing and moisturising. I’m now fully versed in retinol, peels and dermabrasion. Sounds exhausting but I’m actually enjoying it. Will all the frenzied facials make a blind bit of difference, compared to my usual cleansing wipe and dollop of Nivea? I’ll get back to you in a few months time…
Of course it’s a slog, but stick to your guns. And if you fall off the wagon, don’t write off the whole week or even the day. Just get back on it. One big day is just the start of your whole new healthier life. So share your summer goals, I’d love to know how you’re prepping! Channel your inner bridezilla, your pre-kids goddess, and see where she can take you.
